About the Academy

The Northumberland Church of England Academy presents the new leadership with a major change and management challenge – transforming 10 schools into a unified academy, operating on five sites, with three complete new builds, and moving from a First, Middle and High school structure to an all age, all-through approach to learning.

There is also a significant challenge to change the culture to one which is much more focused on aspiration and achievement.

In short, this is an opportunity to not only make a difference to the life-chances of 3,000 children and young people , but also to make your own mark in the field of education in England.

Shared values and principles

The doors of the proposed Academy will be open to learners aged 4 to 19 as well as nursery aged children. Although it will operate over five sites, from 2011, our clear and strongly held vision is for an all-through school united by shared values and principles under the dynamic leadership and management of the same Executive Director and Executive Leadership Team.

Christian ethos – open to all

While there will be no proselytizing - the school will be open to those of all faiths and none - a Christian ethos will inform all that we do. This will be reflected in the Academy’s structures, management strategies and in all our dealings with parents, learners and our many stakeholders.

The Academy's specialism will be Design and the Built Environment and we will focus on the skills and aptitudes needed to develop a deep understanding and appreciation of the land, the environment, the nature of design, and the impact these have on communities and the people in them.

Masterplan

As such, the design and development of a masterplan for the new Academy’s state-of-the-art buildings will become an integral part of the learning experience for learners in all year groups from September 2009.
