An investment in learning

The Northumberland Church of England Academy’s curriculum framework reflects our belief that all learning is an investment. Learners and staff will be encouraged to develop skills, and to behave in ways, which support an investment:

  • In their future
  • In their community
  • In their environment.

We will encourage staff at the new Academy to forge new learning paths for themselves and for their learners. For this reason, our curriculum framework will require fresh ways of thinking about learning and innovative and well founded solutions to new challenges as they emerge.

Organisation

The Academy will admit 210 learners aged four each year with varying numbers on each of the sites. While it is anticipated that the majority of post 16 provision will be for learners continuing their 14-19 learning path from within the Academy a small number of places may be available to those from other schools.

Transition planning

Because the structure of the new organisation will not be in place immediately, effective transition planning will need to be put in place to facilitate the seamless transfer of staff and learners from the existing, fragmented school structure to the new, unified, partnership-wide Academy.

Uninterrupted learning journeys

Continuity for learners will be the key driver for all transition planning. This will minimise the risk of any interruption to the learning journeys of learners, while maintaining the confidence of parents and the wider local community in the work of the new Academy.

Risk takers and entrepreneurs

While our curriculum places great emphasis on the core skills of literacy and numeracy – the ability to communicate with confidence is seen as core – our aim is to develop young people who are enterprising risk takers, people who can solve problems and embrace new opportunities.
